For those of you who collect unusual forms of cloisonne, I offer this gorgeous humidor, c. 1875. You can see that the top of this piece was made to hold a damp sponge which kept the tobacco moist.
It measures about 4-1/4" diameter at the base, and is about 6" high.
The background is dark cobalt blue. There are 5 decorative reserves on the body of the piece. One sports a dragon, one a phoenix, one butterflies, one florals, and one geometrical. It is almost like a "sampler" in cloisonne!
Condition? Amazingly perfect on the exterior. If you look a the photo of the interior of the lid at the 10 o'clock position you will see a small chip. That's it!
