This pretty leaf-shaped dessert dish is about 11" long and 8/14" wide. It is earthenware, with blue slip, gilding, and painted flowers. It is in very good condition. There is wear to the gilding, with only a trace of a leaf-shaped gilded line in the center. There is a speck of wear to the blue molded ornament under the handle. On the back is a tiny glazed-over chip (so, done at the factory). The dish rings when tapped.
The impressed mark reads: "OPAQUE / GRANITE / CHINA / W. R. & Co", for William Ridgway & Co. It was made by William Ridgway at his Church and Cobden Works partnership, c 1838-48, Hanley, Staffordshire.
