What a gorgeous cameo! In Greek mythology she is Demeter. In Roman mythology she is Ceres. Either way, she is the goddess of the harvest, and (among other things) the sanctity of marriage.
This Italian carved shell cameo brooch is 2" long and 1-5/8" wide. It is set in a 10 karat gold mounting which is faintly marked on the clasp. The safety lock on the clasp helps to date the brooch c. 1910.
The cameo is in excellent condition, having only some marks on the back which can't be read. The mounting is in excellent condition, and the clasp operates well.
