This attractive pattern can be seen on the Wedgwood Museum's website, where they identify it as "White ware plate with Japan pattern 7 - c.1808". Whiteware (or White Ware) was a special hard earthenware body introduced at Wedgwood in 1805.

The pattern can also be found in Robin Reilly's "Wedgwood the New Illustrated Dictionary", on page 237. The pattern is printed and hand painted.

This 8-1/2" plate is an amazing survivor in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. The profuse gilding is intact. There are no utensil marks. The plate still rings when tapped (as well as earthenware ever rings).

The back is impressed WEDGWOOD, and has several additional marks. I have 3 of these plates available. The price listed is for a single plate. The two plates not shown are identical except for the additional marks. Let me know if you would like photos of them.

Provenance: the Dean and Mary Rockwell Collection. Vetted by Earl Buckman, President, Wedgwood International Seminar.
