It is hard to find a piece of the "Mogul" pattern in such excellent condition! Because it was enameled over the glaze, the pattern is often very worn...but not in this case. This 8" plate shows no wear to the pattern. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs. It rings when tapped. There are some utensil marks which can be seen in glancing light. The pattern was not effected.

The plate is marked twice:
1.) It has the early printed mark on the back of the piece is shown in Godden's "Mason's Patent Ironstone China: The Illustrated Guide" on page 46.
2.) It has the circular impressed mark: PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA. Godden dates the use of these marks to c. 1813-15.
