It has taken a long time to identify the maker of this gorgeous teapot. I just found it in the collection of the Norwich Castle Museum, and on page 184 of the "Directory of British Teapots" by Berthoud & Maskell. Besides bearing the right pattern number range for Hicks & Meigh (on the matching teapot stand), it is the right shape and sports the distinctive "large oval domed strainer" of that maker. They date it c. 1815.
Hick & Meigh made fine porcelains for only about 20 years, and didn't mark them except with the pattern number on a few pieces of a tea set. There is a chapter on the elusive Hicks & May porcelains in Godden's "Staffordshire Porcelains".
The teapot and lid have damage and repairs, so the teapot is only suitable for display. Both spout and handle are undamaged. The teapot is 10-1/2" long and 5-3/4" high.
Note: Please see the perfect teapot stand, marked with pattern number 699, which is also available here in my Ruby Lane shop.
I guarantee the authenticity of all items I sell, and disclose any damage or restoration. Your satisfaction is guaranteed, or your money back! PayPal accepted. Visa/MasterCard/American Express/Discover accepted.
