This fabulous, huge Jug is in excellent condition. It is a Mason's Ironstone Hydra Jug, in the octagonal baluster form. The Chinoiserie pattern is called "Flying Bird" by the Mason's Collectors' Club, but was originally called "Gold Bird" by the Mason's factory when it was first produced. In this later version, the bird is perched and not flying.

It is about 11-1/4" (28.5 cm) high, and weighs about 5 pounds. There are no chips, no cracks, and no repairs. It rings when tapped.

The jug also has a rare mark...just "Mason's Ironstone China" without the word "Patent". This pattern and mark is shown on the website, "The Ridgway Pattern Book" in the "Broad Street Works" section. The estimated date is pre-1890.
