This attractive platter is 17-1/4" long and 14-1/2" wide. The simple and sparse floral design makes the platter look more modern than it is. It was made by John Ridgway of Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire c1830-1836*.
It is in excellent condition. There are no cracks, no chips, no crazing, and no repairs. There are a few utensil marks which can be seen in glancing light. The platter rings like a bell when tapped. The platter weighs almost 5 pounds.
The piece is marked on the back with the British Royal Arms, "Imperial Stone China", and the initials JR. * We know it was made pre-1837, because this Royal Arms mark has the inescutcheon which was removed in 1837.
