This pretty bowl was made by Joseph Machin, Burslem, Staffordshire between 1828 and 1830. The pattern matches the rest of the partial tea set we have for sale. The matching cups have the "Etruscan" handles, and the matching creamer and sugar have the rare "Dolphin Handled" shape. This was the waste bowl for a tea service.

The 6-1/2" diameter bowl is 3" high. It is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs. The porcelain is very translucent, and rings like a bell when tapped. The only fault is slight wear to the gilding of the lip.

The bowl is marked with the hand painted pattern number 769. This pattern is described as "A formal floral pattern in bright enamel colours. An Imari pattern with C-scrolls with large flowers in a vase in the centre." This is from the book "Machin Porcelains & Earthenwares" by Thom & Miller, page 172.
