C. Tielsch Porcelain Tray,Trompe L'Oeil, Silesia Germany, Antique 19th C
Gorgeous and decorative, this entirely hand painted dish with handles has molded and painted twigs in a trompe l'oeil design, with life-sized leaves scattered over the interior. It measures 12-1/2" long (about 32 cm.) from handle to handle.
Excellent condition. No chips, no cracks, no crazing, no repairs. There is a bit of wear to the gilding of the veins on some of the finely veined leaves, and some gilt wear to the outside edges.
Marked on the back in blue with a large bird and C.T. only. (No country of origin given.) The mark is by C. Tielsch & Co., Altwasser, Silesia, Germany (now known as Walbrzych, Poland). This mark dates the dish as c. 1875-1891.
Privately acquired on Vashon Island from the estate of an advanced ceramics collector.
