This attractive dish of unusual lobed square shape is printed in blue with the "Hauling in the Net" pattern. The name was recently given to the pattern by the Transferware Collectors Club, and can be found in the club's excellent database. They have it listed in the category Indian and Oriental Themes. Two fishermen are hauling in their net on the shore, before a domed temple in a mountainous landscape
The maker is listed as "Unknown" but there is speculation that Minton might be the maker. I date this dish c 1790-1810.

The dish is 7" minimum width to 7-1/2" square maximum width. Minton made this exact shape of a square shaped dessert dish* , but so did Worcester. There are no marks on the back.

The earthenware dish is in very good condition. There is crazing and discoloration to the back, and a tiny crack in the applied foot rim. The front surface in unmarred by utensils, and is nice and glossy. It displays beautifully. The dish does not ring when tapped.

* See Priestman, An Illustrated Guide to Minton Printed Pottery, page 103, plate 5.28.
