What a fabulous pattern! Each blue ball has a different gilding design. This 10.25" porcelain plate has a gilded gadroon edge.

According to John Sandon, in his "Dictionary of Worcester Porcelain", the pattern was popular at Graingers around 1820-25. It was made during the Grainger, Lee & Co. period. A whole set of dinnerware is illustrated in that book on page 130. It is also shown on page 73. with a discussion of the pattern on page 74. The pattern number is 1472.

This plate is in very good condition. There are no chips, no cracks, and no repairs. Surprisingly, there are no utensil marks. There is all-over fine crazing, and slight wear to 3 of the red leaves. It does not ring when tapped.

The plate is completely unmarked, as were many by the factory pre-1840. Guaranteed to be Grainger, Lee & Co., "Blue Ball Japan" pattern, c 1825.
