This fabulous, heavily gilded 8-1/4" plate features the bird and central pattern later used on Wedgwood's "Kutani Crane" pattern. The plate dates c1825. This pattern (also know as "Kutani") is in the Chinese style popular at that time.
This version of the pattern was "the top of the line", with its profuse gilding and polychrome enameling. Wedgwood made very little early Stone China. It is rare.
The plate is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, no repairs, and no wear to the interior gilding or pattern. The gilding on the edges shows some wear. The plate rings when tapped. On the back it is marked "WEDGWOOD'S STONE CHINA".
