This gorgeous hand painted porcelain set is marked "Spode" in red, along with the pattern number, 1956. The pattern dates c 1815. In my Spode books, the pattern is called "Rich Japan".
It must have been stored in a time-capsule, as the set is in excellent condition, with no chips, no cracks, no repairs, and no wear to the pattern or gilding. Both cup and saucer ring like a bell when tapped.
