This gorgeous bone china pedestal teapot has a low, round, melon-ribbed body. The cover has a very large decorative finial in the shape of a strawberry and strawberry leaves. It is about 11-1/4" long.

Although unsigned, this teapot shape is shown on plate 2042, page 341 of "An Anthology of British Teapots" by Miller & Berthoud. They call it a "distinctive shape" and identify it as Mason's bone china, c. 1835-40. It can also be seen on the web at the terrific Norfolk Museums & Archaeology Service website. They date it c. 1830, and identify it as by C.J. Mason.

The teapot is in very good condition. It has a slight nick on the edge of the spout, and a small crack on the interior base which can also be seen on the base exterior. There is some wear to the gilding around the pedestal base. I cannot explain the strange appearance of the bottom of the teapot. I have black-lighted the pieces, and there are no repairs.

The teapot cover and finial are in excellent condition, with no damage. Neither teapot nor cover rings when tapped.
