This gorgeous, large Milk Jug or Pitcher was made with an unusual double molding technique. The azaleas are molded in relief, and most of the body (the turquoise blue part) is pineapple-molded. It dates c. 1842-48.

Perfect condition! No chips, no cracks, no crazing, no wear to the gilding, no repairs.

Although it stands only 5-3/4 " (14.5 cm) high, the circumference measures almost 18" (46 cm) ...this striking piece has presence! It holds 4 cups (1 quart) of liquid.

The only legible marks are the hand painted pattern number 5544 in red, and another number (30) in golden brown. This Minton pattern number dates the piece to no later than 1848. The bottom has the molded English Registry mark, which dates the pitcher to after 1842. That mark is filled in with glaze, and is not legible.

For another example of Minton's pineapple molding, see plate 1321, page 221 of Michael Berthoud's book " A Compendium of British Cups".
