Gorgeous bowl on a pedestal by A.G. Richardson & Co. under their Crown Ducal mark. This pattern is called "Delhi",# A 617 and was introduced in 1918, (very early in the company's history). In fact, it is one of the first three chintz patterns made by this company!

It is shown in Susan Scott's Chintz Book on page 141 of the 2nd edition, and page 153 of the 3rd edition. The mark on this piece dates it c.1925 according to Godden's mark book.

The comport (or compote) measures about 8-1/2" (21.5 cm) in diameter, and about 4" (10 cm) high. The comport is a rare form of chintz. The colors are: black background, red-orange (dogwood-like) flowers, with green vines & leaves and and a yellow-gold "veining?" against the black background. There are some illegible numbers on the base.

Condition? Excellent. No cracks, no chips, no crazing. A couple of small nicks on the edge which can be felt more easily than seen. The piece rings when tapped.
