This Davenport Pearlware Teapot was printed in the hard-to-find "Turkish Archer" transferware pattern. Evidently this pattern was used only by Davenport of Longport, Staffordshire. The transfer is black, or a very dark brown (I can't decide which).

The teapot is molded in a narrow, oblong octagonal shape with a large scalloped cape. It is 7" high and about 10-1/2" long. It dates c. 1835.

The pattern can be found on the terrific Transferware Collectors data base, and in Williams and Weber's "Staffordshire III, Romantic Transfer Patterns: Cup Plates and Early Victorian China". They note that a teapot in this pattern was found with an impressed Davenport mark. This teapot is not marked.

Condition: 1. There is a chip to the spout. 2. There is a hairline crack (tight), near the base that goes through to the interior. 3. There is a chip at the base of the finial. 4. There are several chips to the underside of the lid. Despite these flaws, the teapot display nicely. 5. The crow's foot crack on the base of the teapot does not go through to the interior.
