This pretty arcaded plate was part of a larger dessert service that would have been used to serve fruits and desserts after a main meal.

The 7-1/8" plate is in excellent, pristine condition. It shows no wear. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs. It has the Semi-China mark surrounded by a "Chinese" seal on the back, along with a workman's tally mark. It rings when tapped (as well as earthenware ever rings).

According to the Transferware Collectors Club database, "Bamboo and Flowers" pattern was introduced c. 1820. The pattern is almost always found with the Semi China printed mark that is probably the earliest printed mark used by Minton. The pattern was found on a wide range of wares including jugs, bowls, dinner, tea and dessert wares."

You can see many examples of this pattern illustrated on pages 153-55 in "An Illustrated Guide to Minton Printed Pottery 1796-1836", by Geoffrey H. Priestman.
