This simple and sweet Staffordshire porcelain cup and saucer has a brown transfer of two birds, and a pale orange lustre border. The set is made of soft paste porcelain or bone china, and is translucent. Note that the birds on the saucer are not colored in, as they are on the cup.
The condition is excellent. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, no repairs. Each piece rings when tapped. The saucer's diameter is 5-1/2" (14 cm), and the cup is 2-5/8" (6.5 cm) high. There is some wear to the orange lustre on the lip of the cup.
There are no maker's marks or pattern numbers. The Transferware Collectors Club database has given this pattern the provisional name "Pheasants". They date it c.1860.
