Mt. Washington Glass Ring Vase, Stork in Cattails, Smith Brothers, Antique
A beautifully painted ring vase made by Mt. Washington Glass of New Bedford, Mass., and decorated by the Smith Brothers Decorating Shop, c.1875-90. The background is a pale gray, the rings are white and have gilded trim. The vase is 7-3/4" tall, and the diameter is 2-15/16".
You can see a similar vase on page 159 of "The Encyclopedia of Victoriana" , Bridgeman & Drury, and in the Corning Museum of Glass.
The condition is very good. There is a shallow interior chip (under the lip), and another shallow oval roughness, which looks like a burst bubble. The enameled painting is nicely intact, with a slight wear to one small stalk. All flaws are shown in the photos.
