This gorgeous cup and saucer set is decorated in the flamboyant "Japan" taste with hand painted Imari colors of underglaze blue, overglaze iron-red, green and lots of gold.
The set was made by the firm of John & William Ridgway, of Cauldon Place, Shelton (Hanley), Staffordshire, about 1825. The scalloped edged cup has an "Old English" handle. Both pieces are marked with the Ridgway pattern number. 2/1015 written in red-orange.
Both pieces are in excellent condition, having no chips, no cracks, and no repairs. Both pieces ring when tapped. The only flaw I see is some slight wear to the gilt line which girdles the cup.
The cup is 3-3/4" in diameter, and 1-7/8" high, and the saucer is 5-5/8" in diameter.
We have 2 of these sets available. The price listed is for one set.
