This spectacular early 19th C plate has a rare pattern, a rare form, two early marks, and is in excellent condition. The scalloped shape is studded with 8 points. The edge is embossed. The dark green main border surrounds two of the most exotic geese (?) ever seen.
The plate is in excellent condition. It's nice and glossy, with no chips, no cracks, no crazing, no repairs, no discolorations. The gilding is intact. There are a very few faint utensil marks. It rings when tapped.
The back is marked twice: the impressed linear MASONS PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA mark (used 1813-25), and a purple printed mark used from 1820.
The pattern is "Geese with Peonies and Feathers", named by the Mason's Collectors Club.
