This gorgeous 4 piece tea set dates from 1806, a time when George III was still officially King of England, and his son had not yet been appointed Regent. A set with this much gilding was very expensive at that time.

The set is in wonderful condition! There is no damage to the creamer, sugar, or stand. There are small chips to the underside of the teapot's spout. There is a fine hairline crack under the spout, which goes through to the interior. There is an "in-the-making" small firing crack to the lid of the teapot. The gilding is beautifully intact except for some wear which shows to the oval inner border of the stand. All pieces ring when tapped.

Each piece is marked with a hand written SPODE 893 in red. According to Vega Wilkinson's Spode book, pattern 893 dates to 1806.

The teapot shape can be seen on page 163, plate 973 of "A Directory of British Teapots" by Berthoud and Maskell. Like that piece, this one has the "high body, solid gilt spout, high thumb rest, and a 14 hole large flattened domed strainer."

Here are approximate measurements: 1. Teapot: 10-1/4" long, 6-5/8" high.
2. Tray: 7-3/4" long, 6-1/4" wide. 3. Sugar: 7" long, 5" high. 4. Creamer: 5-1/4" long, 4" high.

The set will need to be packed and shipped in 2 USPS Priority Mail boxes for safe delivery to you.
