This gorgeous, large Kutani platter or tray is a beautifully hand painted winter scene of an eagle with its prey. It was identified by Georges Bouvier of the Kutani Ceramics Website as Yokohama Kutani, signed Yokohama Shimada Seizo e. He dates the tray 1910-20.
The tray is 14-1/4" x 11-1/2" and in very good condition. There are no chips, no crazing and no repairs. There is a very fine hair line to the glaze on the back of the tray which does NOT go through the body. The tray rings when tapped.
Note the heavily enameled "falling snow" on the tree in the upper right side.
