This handsome Kutani Vase has iron red reserves and stands 15" high. The front of the vase depicts a gentleman in a bowler hat boating with his wife and daughter. The child is launching small paper boats. The reverse shows a more typical Kutani design of ducks, trees, and flowers. This vase is beautifully and carefully hand painted. It dates to the Meiji era; 1868 to 1912.
The kanji on the base reads: Kutani , and possibly Suyasei,(or Suya, Maker).
Condition? No chips, no repairs. There are 3 short hairlines on the interior of the vase lip, which do not show on the exterior. There is a photo of them below.
The diameter of the top is 5-3/8". The diameter of the base is 4-5/8". The vase weighs 5-1/2 lbs. un-packaged.
