What a lovely early example of Staffordshire Chinoiserie soft paste porcelain! The red/brown transfer print is enamelled in yellow, green, light blue, and puce. A photograph of this saucer may be found on page 156, plate 214 of "Chinoiserie" by Howard Davis.

The maker of this piece is unknown, but is called the "Architectural Draughtsman" for the precision of the transferware engravings. There are only two green spots on the base, and no pattern numbers. I date the saucer as no later than 1825, as this type of ware is shown with "London style" cups.

The saucer has a diameter of 5-3/4" (14.5 cm). It is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks, no crazing, and no repairs. It rings when tapped.
