This attractive pedestal base dessert dish is decorated with a cobalt blue wave design under the glaze, and hand painted overglaze enamels of flowers and leaves in orange, yellow, green and gold.
The bowl is 8-3/8" in diameter. The 2 handles extend it to 10-1/4" wide. The height is 3-1/4".
There is a pseudo-Chinese mark in red on the base. No other marks. I date this comport c.1830 or earlier.
The condition is very good. There are no chips, no crazing, no repairs, and no utensil marks. The gilding is not worn except for the very ends of the handles. There is an "in-the-making" firing flaw under one of the handles. There is a single tight hair-line crack near each of the handles. Despite these flaws, the dish rings when tapped.
