We have been fascinated by this ring and have had it on and off my hand trying to decide why it has been such a curiosity. The inscription inside the shank leads us to believe it may be of French origin. It reads ""l'unis 16-6-19" and translates to "united on 16-6-19". Could it be a wedding date?

The mix of stones--garnet, pearls and turquoise is very attractive and were commonly used in Victorian jewelry dating during the late 1800s. The bright blue color of the turquoise combined with the pinkish garnet is striking. The pearls add the extra "pop". The dome shape is studded with turquoise stones and the pearls are featured in an open worked design.

The mounting tests 18K gold and the ring weighs 9.9 grams. The shank appears to be doubled with a twisted rope design as an extra touch. The ring fits a size 7 finger and could be re-sized with care. It would be sad to destroy the inscription which adds to the romantic sentiment of the ring.

This may be a one-of-the-kind and would be a unique addition to a collection of antique rings.
