The sentiment inscribed on this wonderful antique locket brings back many memories of sadness visited on dozens of pieces of memorial jewelry from the Georgian and Victorian eras. We added a chain that is not original (not included) to try it around the neck. Now it is difficult to add it to the listing and not keep it myself.
Although it is not marked with content, it has been tested and is guaranteed to be sterling silver. The star shape featuring banded agate stones is complete and very well fitted in the mounting. The design is striking. The inner frames that may have held photos or other personal memories are missing but easily refitted by a jeweler. The closure is very secure and the bale is large enough to hold a good size chain or ribbon.
The locket weighs 15.2 grams and measures 1 1/2 inch in length and 1 1/4 inch at the widest. It is 2 inches long when the bale is included in the measurement. The engraving reads as follows. "In memory of my Dear Brother Johnny Died June 6 1882". It is a very special piece of memorial jewelry in fine antique condition.
