It is always a surprise to find another "dirk". This one is somewhat smaller in size and is fitted with a different variety of agates. No matter how many we come across, we are amazed by the wide array of color the designers were able to put together and create something new.
Although these items are seldom marked, it is likely they come to be during the latter part of the 1800s. Many were manufactured in Scotland but also in Birmingham, England. The cutting of the agates and setting them into the sterling mountings took special skill.
We have used three dirks of varying size on the lapel of a jacket and created a fashion statement. Our collectors are now copying the "look". The colors adapt to any outfit. This is another lovely antique.
