The sterling silver work in the center of this fine Scottish brooch is a reminder of the skill exhibited by the hundreds of artists at work in Scotland during the 19th century. This piece is one of a collection recently acquired that includes a variety of Scottish jewels that show the enormous variety of examples using silver and agates.
Included in this piece are a variety of agates--bloodstone, gold and grey, and grey and red banded agates. The center stone is a citrene. The attached chain was a safety addition. It is unusual to find it still in use. The "C" clasp and "T" pin are original and in perfect working order.
The brooch measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter and weighs 25.6 grams. The silver ring in the center.has fine etching and the agates are well carved and beautifully set in the mounting. Fine condition.
