The fashion for Scottish jewelry swept both England and France in the 1860s. Queen Victoria's seal of approval was for all things Scottish and Scotland became a favorite holiday location for tourists. It seemed that English society was captivated by the dress and colors of the country.

Bracelets such as this example were designed especially with English fashion in mind. Here is a bracelet made up of links of agates in all colors set in silver and joined by a decorative padlock. Known as "pebble" jewelery it is set with a variety of agates in a combination of warm colors. Countless variations of agates in these mellow shades show patterns of natural striations. The silver mountings are beautifully executed.

There are many specialist collectors we have met over the years and find it difficult to acquire the pieces that are beautifully crafted and appealing to their satisfaction. This is a very fine example in excellent condition.
