A very popular and charming innovation was the serpent motif. Generally the snake was coiled with a tail in its mouth. It was an ancient symbol of eternity. The serpent design was especially popular with Queen Victoria. Here we have an unusual example with scales of the snake skin textured in the design. The fluid lines of the earrings add softness to the flow.

There is a distinct 9K mark on each earring with small genuine ruby eyes complimenting the snakes' heads. The use of forms found in nature were very desirable in Victorian jewelry and serpents were just one of the many designs.

The earrings weigh 7.8 grams and measure 1 1/2 inches in length. We believe the wires may not be original although they have been found in several pairs of earrings we have had previously. They are easily changed as designated jewelers can do this for minimal cost. The condition of the earrings is excellent.
