Does it have a name? We couldn't begin to guess, but it shouldn't matter. The whimsical figure is done in a lovely blue enamel emphasizing the feathers and upraised wings. The beak holds a branch exhibiting green leaves done in enamel as well. This pendant/brooch is done in 9K gold and is well marked. (see photo)
The piece features a bale that folds down when you wish to wear the pendant as a brooch. A pin and safety catch appear to be original as well. When worn on a chain or ribbon as a pendant, the bale is raised and adds to the measurement by 1/4 inch making the total length 2 inches. The width is 1 1/4 inch. The weight is 24.8 grams.
The love of nature was truly evident in jewelry design during the Victorian era. It may be one of the most popular themes in jewelry. This is an excellent example and it is in fine antique condition.
