Opal, with its extraordinary, subtle play of colors has long been a highly priced and often venerated stone. People have believed the opal possesses the miraculous powers of all the colors it imitates--ruby, sapphire, emerald and topaz. The superstition concerning opals is the belief that it brings bad luck to wear opal if it is not your birthstone--not believable.
This opal exhibits a play of various colors when light fall over its surface. Opals are cut as cabochon --shown here. It is mounted on a fine 14K white gold setting and surrounded by tiny seed pearls strung on fine wire. The mounting is filagree --beautifully crafted.
The ring fits a size 7.5 finger and could be easily re-sized by a competent jeweler. The weight is 4.7 grams. The top measures 1 3/4 inch by 1 1/2 inch. It would sit 1/2 inch above the finger. The stone is 5.8 carat. This opal exhibits all the properties we would wish to see in a fine opal. It is in lovely condition and would be treasured by any new owner.
