Most often when we refer to a giardinetti design we think of the rings we have treasured in past years. This is a "first" for us--a stunning pendant/brooch. The jeweled design is mounted on a round bluish opaline base. There are numerous floral forms that are pegged on the opaline base. These include rose cut diamonds, rose cut zircons and scattered turquoise stones.
The reverse is a locket back--empty, but covered with a beveled glass. The "T" pin and "C" clasp as well as the ring are later additions. These additions partially obscure the fine engraving. However, we can read "Snow--ob 2 May 1807" . The rest is hidden under the additions. The piece weighs 24.5 grams and is 1 3/4 inch in diameter.
It is an exquisite gem held in a 14K-15K (tested) frame. It is especially striking when worn on a gold chain or neck ring.
