Superior craftsmanship. is the hallmark of this multi-gem brooch from the early years of the 1900s. the double hearts are a symbol of romance. The use o.f an 18K frame (tested) surmounted with precious gems would delight any recipient--even if you treat yourself.
There are 40 points of larger diamonds and 14 rose cut diamonds in one heart. Four rubies encircle the brooch and 16 tiny rubies grace the second heart. Four sapphires and three pearls complete the circle. five graduated pearls crown the double hearts.
The brooch measures 1 1/5 inch in diameter and weighs 7.9 grams. The pin is steel and the clasp has a safety. We could not find any identifying marks but believe the piece is American.
Although diamond jewelry was most coveted, enthusiasm for colored stones came into fashion in the last quarter of the 19th century. The stones in this brooch are modest in size, they are part of the wonderful world of color.
