The Unusual shape--eight sides and stunning woven hair make this ring one of the most desirable objects for the collector. An urn with initials "GA and GE" and the title " D'Amite" is inscribed and enhanced with gold decor sits on the hair base. The hair work itself is fascinating and in superb condition.
There are no marks, but acid testing shows the gold as 18K. It is guaranteed. The shank is a simple split shank--very typical of these Georgian gems. Without markings, we can only guess at the origin. It could be French or English.
The ring will fit a size 5.5 to 6 finger but could be resized with great care by a competent jeweler. the top measures 1 inch by 5/8 inch. it would sit 1/4 inch above the finger.
It is a true treasure and worthy of belonging to the best collection or museum.
