The enamel painting of the winged putti is beautifully rendered. It sits in a frame of 15k gold (tested) and has a swag decor of blue and white enamel as well. It appears that the cherub is floating on a bank of cloud.
The brooch measures 2 inches wide and is 1 and 3/4 inch top to bottom. The "T" pin and "C" clasp are in excellent working order and appear to have been re- enforced at one time--ages ago. A small loop most likely held the security chain and pin which was typical of the period. The extra fitting and its missing match could have held a drop or swag of some kind. It has no effect on the quality of the brooch. It is easily removed by a jeweler without any damage to the painting.
It is a delightful portrayal of one of Victorians' favorite treasures. We can't help but wonder if it a portrait of the artist's child.
It is in wonderful antique condition.
