Ten beautifully cut garnet stones set in each earring and held in collet mountings of 18K gold are a striking example of Georgian craftsmanship. Most likely the stones are foil – backed as was typical of the closed back settings used during this Georgian period.
The wires are newer replacements. The earrings came to us this way. Each measures ¾ inch in diameter and the stones are perfect. We see slight discoloration of the gold on the backs and believe this is due to poor testing at one time. In no way does this affect the quality and beauty of the earrings.
Excellent example of Georgian jewelry.
