Considering its age, this splendid example of memorial jewelry is in perfect condition. The “T” pin and the “C” clasp are original and the enamel is flawless. The crystal-covered center holds a piece of fabric – no hair. We wonder if there ever was a lock of hair included.
The sentiment reads “Catherine Edge, ob 2 Jan 1812 E.T. 68”. The brooch measures 1 1/8 inches in width and is 5/8 inch in height. We suspect that the piece was put away for safekeeping – just shy of 200 years. Georgian pieces do not always hold up this well.
