Exquisite “hairwork” formed into Prince of Wales feathers is mounted in a superb gold and enamel brooch. The work is among the finest we have ever seen. The locket back, now empty, would allow for additional locks of hair or a portrait.
The engraving reads “In Memory of Beloved Mother Died 3rd Feb 1864”. It is a tribute worthy of being added to the beautiful hairwork set under the glass. Fine gold wire and tiny pearls are added to this bouquet of feathers. The pearls signify tears. The tiny gold loop on the back was added originally to hold a safety chain. The pin and “C” clasp are original. There is one tiny dent to the egg-shaped decoration at the top of the mounting. In no way does it affect the quality or beauty of this brooch. The original enamel work is perfect. Measurements: 2 ½ inches in width; 2 inches top to bottom; ½ inch in depth. All in 15K gold and English in origin. Excellent condition
