Mounted in an 18K frame and surrounded by seed pearls is a wonderful enamel painting. The subject is a charming child dressed in a peasant-like costume of white and burgundy red. The artistry is outstanding. Every detail of her face and dress are worth close examination. The pendant measures one and three fourths inches in length, including the bale. The dimension for width is seven-eighths of an inch at the widest point. The back is a locket opening with a beveled glass in a gold frame. The inside of the locket is a mother-of-pearl backing to the enamel portrait. An original bale holds three seed pearls in a graduating diameter. A clearly visible French hallmark appears on the reverse side of the bale. There are 54 well matched seed pearls surrounding the gold frame and held together by a fine wire. This fine piece sits in its original velvet lined box with the merchant’s name and address clearly visible in the lid. There are three initials “MBH” on the outside of the box cover. Perhaps it was a special identification of the lucky owner.
