This is a c. 1900 match safe in the form of a tied package, one side has two gilded matches. The bezel is marked "sterling" along with illegible numbers. Based on an identical match safe that was sold by Heritage Auction on Feb. 22, 2015, these numbers are "42785" and "49." The maker was not identified. The match safe is 2 1/2 x 1 3/8 inches. It has some condition issues, the sides are slightly squeezed, lid lacks tension in the closed position and there are two holes in the striker area. This is a fairly uncommon match safe.
