This is a c. 1900 match safe with a serpent/snake with a red glass eye. The bezel is marked "Sterling" plus the Carter, Howe & Co., New York, NY maker's mark. Its approximately 2 5/8 x 1 1/2 inches with a striker to the bottom. Very good condition with a strong lid spring. It has a couple of edge dents and there is some seam roughness on the lid.
