This is a c. 1904 match safe featuring bold images of cherub faces along the edge and a center cartouche area, both sides the same. One side of the lid is marked "Sterling" plus the maker's mark for Unger Bros., Newark, NJ. An example of this match safe appeared in Unger's 1904 trade catalog as item number 7568. Its approximately 2 3/4 x 1 3/4 inches with a steel saw-tooth striker to the bottom. Excellent condition with a strong lid spring. Its a sturdy match safe weighing 1.2 ounces.
