This is a 1898 nickel plated brass match safe marked "Battleship Maine-Destroyed in Havana Harbor, Feb. 15, 98" on one side, the reverse is plain. The bezel is marked "Pat Appl'd For" referring to patent number 595,070 issued on Dec 7, 1897 to Wm. Schimper & Co., Hoboken, NJ. Its approximately 2 3/4 x 1 1/2 inches with a striker to the bottom. Excellent condition with a strong lid spring.
