This is a c. 1900 match safe that features a vice motif on one side, the reverse is plain with engraved initials. The vice motif is very elaborate with a horse racing scene on the lid, images of a devil, playing cards, man & lady dancing and a champagne bottle & glasses. The bezel is marked "sterling" and it measures approximately 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches with a striker to the bottom. This match safe does not have a maker's mark but other identical examples have been seen with a "Sterling G" mark indicating it was made by F. S, Gilbert, N. Attleboro, MA. Condition is very good, some dings and dents on edges and back. It has a strong lid spring and closes securely.
