This is a c. 1900 silver plated match safe advertising Royal Insurance Company, Ltd. on one side, the other side had a counter, probably for whist or a card game. There is a button on one edge to activate the counter. Unfortunately the counter does not work properly, the button works fine but the numbers do not turn. It may need a cleaning or touch of oil. Its approximately 2 x 1 1/2 inches with a striker to the bottom. The lid has a thumb tab. Very good condition with a strong lid spring. This match safe was acquired from the Roger Fresco-Corbu collection. He was a well know collector and author of numerous books and articles pertaining to vestas and tobacciana who passed away in early 2000.
